Julio Jones Injury, Week 4
The almost-defending champion Atlanta Falcons are off to another hot start after three weeks of NFL football, but they’re currently dealing with a Julio Jones injury (back) that could derail their perfect 3-0 record when they host the Buffalo Bills in Atlanta this weekend. Jones, the almost-Super Bowl hero with magnets in his hands (and, apparently, in the toes of his cleats) is a rare talent in the NFL, and a gunslinger like quarterback Matt Ryan would sorely miss his presence if he sits this one out.
However, the Julio Jones injury may not be serious, and while it’s limited his time in practice all week, there’s no reason to think he won’t play on Sunday. He just likely won’t be playing at 100%. Still, most of the legal online sportsbooks (Bovada, BetOnline, SportsBetting, etc.) have the Falcons as mere 8-point favorites against the lowly Bills, so the uncertainty around Jones may indeed be having an effect on the spread.
All things considered, this seems like a good time to bet on the favorite. Yes, the Julio Jones injury might keep the receiver from being the star on Sunday, but Ryan is currently sitting at 4th in the league in total yardage while Buffalo’s Tyrod Taylor is 26th, and the Falcons are putting up 102.7 more yards per game than the Bills. When it comes to points per game, it’s an even bigger mismatch, with the Falcons averaging 29 and the Bills sitting at an anemic 16.7. That beats the spread by a healthy margin, which is what Atlanta should do on Sunday.
